Auburn is a major regional transportation nexus. It is bisected by State Route 167 (the Valley Freeway), which runs north-south, and State Route 18, which runs east-west, connecting the South Sound to Interstate 90.
Public transit is highly accessible. The Auburn Station is a major hub for Sound Transit's Sounder commuter rail, providing rapid, traffic-free service to Seattle and Tacoma. The station is also a central node for Sound Transit Express buses, King County Metro, and Pierce Transit.
Freight rail is critical to the local economy, with BNSF Railway operating a major rail yard in the city. For air travel, Auburn Municipal Airport serves small, general aviation aircraft, while Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) is located roughly 15 miles to the northwest.
