While Auburn was historically known for its fertile soils and robust agricultural output—particularly hops, berries, and dairy farming—modernization and urbanization have replaced most large-scale farming with industrial and residential developments.
However, agricultural heritage is still celebrated and practiced on a smaller scale. The city hosts a popular Auburn Farmers Market during the summer and early fall, showcasing local produce, artisan foods, and crafts from regional farmers. The areas immediately surrounding the city, particularly toward Enumclaw and the Muckleshoot Reservation, still feature small-scale farms, equestrian facilities, and nurseries.
