Agriculture

Historically, McLean was characterized by tobacco plantations, dairy farms, and rural agricultural estates. Today, the area is almost entirely developed for residential, commercial, and federal use. Commercial agriculture is no longer an active part of the local economy. However, community appreciation for agriculture remains visible through urban gardening initiatives, residential estate gardens, and the popular McLean Farmers Market, which connects residents with regional farmers and artisanal food producers.
