As a fully developed suburban community within a major metropolitan area, Annandale no longer supports commercial agriculture.
Historically, the area was dominated by tobacco farming in the 18th century, which later transitioned to dairy and mixed-crop farming in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, agriculture in Annandale is strictly recreational and community-focused. Residents participate in urban gardening, and local farmers' markets (such as the Annandale Farmers Market operated by the county) bring fresh produce, baked goods, and artisanal foods from rural Virginia and Maryland directly into the community.
