The topography of Highland Village is characterized by gently rolling terrain, a hallmark of the Eastern Cross Timbers region. The elevation averages around 594 feet above sea level, with slight undulations dropping toward the shoreline of Lewisville Lake.
The lakefront areas feature coves, small peninsulas, and mild bluffs that have been heavily incorporated into residential landscaping and public parkland. Several small creeks and drainage tributaries weave through the city, channeling runoff northward into the lake. Unlike the flat prairie lands to the east, the rolling hills and mature post oak trees give the city a slightly more rugged and wooded aesthetic.
