Historically, the land around Flower Mound was dedicated to cotton, wheat, and dairy farming. Today, traditional commercial agriculture has almost entirely been replaced by residential and commercial development.
However, the legacy of the land is preserved in small equestrian estates on the western edge of town and in conservation efforts. The most prominent 'agricultural' preservation is The Mound itself, managed by the Mound Foundation to protect its native bluestem and Indian grass, preventing invasive species from altering the original prairie ecosystem.
