Lusby is situated on the Atlantic Coastal Plain in Southern Maryland. The geography of the region is defined by its peninsular location, bordered by the Chesapeake Bay to the east and the Patuxent River to the west.
While the core Census-Designated Place is primarily inland, the greater Lusby area features stunning waterfronts. The most notable geographical feature is the Calvert Cliffs, a series of steep, sandy cliffs along the Chesapeake Bay that were formed millions of years ago when the region was covered by a warm, shallow sea.
The landscape is characterized by heavily forested areas, winding creeks (such as St. Leonard Creek and Mill Creek), and gently rolling terrain. The mix of dense woods, tidal marshes, and open bay waters creates a rich ecosystem supporting diverse wildlife, including ospreys, bald eagles, and blue crabs.
