Lusby's economy is highly robust, anchored by two of the most significant energy facilities in the state of Maryland. The Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant (operated by Constellation Energy) and the Cove Point LNG terminal (operated by Berkshire Hathaway Energy) are massive contributors to the local tax base and are among the county's largest employers.
Additionally, Lusby's economy is deeply intertwined with the defense sector. The Patuxent River Naval Air Station (PAX River), located just across the Thomas Johnson Bridge in neighboring St. Mary's County, is a premier flight testing and aeronautical research facility. Many of Lusby's residents are civilian contractors, engineers, and military personnel who commute to PAX River. Retail, dining, and local services clustered in the Lusby Town Center further support the local economy.
