The City of Grayson operates under a Mayor-Council form of government. The City Council consists of a mayor and four council members, all elected at large by the residents to serve four-year staggered terms. The local government focuses primarily on municipal administration, zoning, local parks, city events, and sanitation.
Because of its small size, Grayson relies heavily on Gwinnett County for many essential public services. Law enforcement is provided by the Gwinnett County Police Department, and fire and emergency medical services are provided by Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. Water, sewer, and public school administration are also managed at the county level, allowing the municipal government to maintain low local property tax rates while focusing on community enhancement.
