Sunnyvale features a very gentle topography. The vast majority of the city rests on a flat alluvial plain that slopes almost imperceptibly northward toward the San Francisco Bay.
- **Highest Point:** The southern edge of the city, near the Cupertino border, begins a very slight incline toward the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. - **Lowest Point:** Sea level, along the northern boundary at the San Francisco Bay. - **Coastal Areas:** The northern edge features coastal salt ponds, sloughs, and protected baylands, most notably around Baylands Park.
