Milpitas is known as the "Crossroads of Silicon Valley" due to its exceptional transportation infrastructure. The city is bordered and intersected by three major highways: Interstate 880 (running north-south), Interstate 680 (running north-south along the foothills), and State Route 237 (an east-west freeway connecting to Mountain View and Sunnyvale).
Public transit is a major asset for the city. The Milpitas Transit Center, which opened in 2020, is a massive multimodal hub. It serves as a major station for the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system, connecting Milpitas directly to San Jose, the East Bay, and San Francisco. The transit center also integrates with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light rail and local bus networks. For air travel, the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) is located just a few miles south.
