Compton experiences a classic semi-arid/Mediterranean climate (Köppen climate classification *BSh* / *Csa*). The weather is highly agreeable year-round, characterized by mild to warm temperatures and ample sunshine.
Summers are warm and dry, with average high temperatures typically in the low to mid-80s (°F), while winters are mild, with daytime highs usually in the mid-60s (°F) and lows rarely dropping below the mid-40s (°F). The city receives an average of 12 to 14 inches of rainfall annually, the vast majority of which falls between November and April. Snow is virtually unheard of. Because it lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire, Compton is susceptible to earthquakes, the most notable historically being the 1933 Long Beach earthquake.
