Historically known as "The Orchard City," Campbell was once covered in acres of apricot, prune, and cherry orchards, serving as a vital center for fruit packing and canning.
Today, however, Campbell is fully urbanized. Commercial agriculture is no longer practiced within city limits. The city's agricultural heritage is now maintained culturally rather than economically, most notably through the highly popular year-round Campbell Farmers' Market held downtown every Sunday, which brings in fresh, organic produce from farms across the broader Northern and Central California regions.
