Economy

Auburn's economy is highly resilient, largely shielded from national economic downturns by the stabilizing presence of Auburn University, which acts as the city's largest single employer. The university drives a massive ecosystem of retail, hospitality, real estate, and services tailored to students, faculty, and visiting sports fans.

Beyond education, Auburn has strategically developed a formidable advanced manufacturing sector. The city's industrial parks house numerous high-tech manufacturing firms, heavily focused on automotive parts, aerospace engineering, and plastics. This is largely a result of the city's proximity to major automotive assembly plants (such as Hyundai in Montgomery and Kia in nearby West Point, Georgia). Cost of living remains generally affordable compared to national averages, though housing within the city limits is notably more expensive than the Alabama state average.
