Agriculture

Agriculture plays a smaller role in Sweden's economy than industry and services, but it remains important regionally, especially in the south. The best farmland is concentrated in **Skåne**, **Östergötland**, **Västergötland**, and parts of the Mälaren region.

## Main agricultural activities

- **Crops:** Wheat, barley, oats, rapeseed, sugar beet, potatoes, and fodder crops - **Dairy farming:** Significant in several rural regions - **Livestock:** Cattle, pigs, poultry, and sheep - **Horticulture:** Vegetables, greenhouse production, and some fruit and berry cultivation - **Organic farming:** Sweden has had a notable organic food and sustainability movement, though the share varies over time

## Forestry

Forestry is often more economically significant than conventional farming in large parts of Sweden. Managed forests provide timber, pulpwood, bioenergy feedstock, and materials for paper and construction industries.

## Fisheries and aquaculture

Sweden has commercial fisheries in the Baltic Sea, Kattegat, Skagerrak, and inland waters, though the sector is much smaller than in some other maritime nations and is tightly regulated. Aquaculture exists but is limited compared with major global producers.

## Food production

Sweden has a developed food-processing sector producing dairy goods, baked products, meats, beverages, preserved foods, and specialty products. Domestic production is important, but the country also imports a substantial share of food.
