Transportation

The Netherlands possesses world-class transportation infrastructure. It is universally recognized as the bicycling capital of the world; there are more bicycles than people, supported by an unparalleled network of over 35,000 kilometers of dedicated, physically separated cycle paths.

Public transit is highly integrated and efficient. The national railway network, operated primarily by *Nederlandse Spoorwegen* (NS), provides high-frequency connections between all major cities. Within cities, comprehensive networks of trams, buses, and (in Amsterdam and Rotterdam) metros facilitate easy movement.

The road network is exceptionally well-maintained, featuring dense, high-speed motorways equipped with widespread electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure—the Netherlands has one of the highest densities of EV chargers globally. Internationally, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is a major aviation hub, and high-speed rail connects Dutch cities to Paris, London, Brussels, and Frankfurt.
