The topography of the Museum locality is characterized by gentle, undulating slopes, a hallmark of Thiruvananthapuram's terrain, which is often described as a city of seven hills. The land within the museum and zoo compound features rolling elevations, small terraced lawns, and artificial water bodies designed to support the captive wildlife and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the botanical gardens. The highest points near the Kanakakkunnu Palace grounds offer sweeping views of the surrounding tree canopy, while the lower areas accommodate walking paths and storm drainage channels.
