Kerala experiences a tropical monsoon climate (Köppen: Am). The region has high humidity year-round and receives abundant rainfall.
Average temperatures range from 24°C to 32°C (75°F to 90°F). The Southwest Monsoon brings heavy, torrential rains from June to August, while the Northeast Monsoon brings lighter rains in October and November. Because of the heavy rains, Kerala's monuments feature distinctively steep, overhanging roofs to protect the mud and laterite walls from water damage. The best time to visit these heritage sites is during the dry season, from December to March, when the weather is warm, clear, and more comfortable for outdoor exploration.
