Neighborhoods

Bidhannagar is best understood through its planned **sectors** and adjoining urban districts rather than through organically evolved neighborhoods.

- **Sector I** One of the original residential sectors, known for established homes, local markets, schools, and community parks.

- **Sector II** Primarily residential, with a mix of houses, apartments, and institutional uses. It retains much of the planned Salt Lake urban form.

- **Sector III** A largely residential area with neighborhood shopping, schools, and easy access to major roads linking the city to Kolkata.

- **Sector IV** Includes residential blocks as well as civic and recreational facilities in the broader Salt Lake area.

- **Sector V** The city’s best-known business district and IT hub, dominated by office towers, technology parks, food outlets, and heavy commuter traffic.

- **Central Park area** A major civic and recreational zone around one of the city’s signature open spaces, with event venues and institutional landmarks nearby.

- **Karunamoyee** An important transport and administrative node, known for bus connectivity, government offices, and easy access to nearby neighborhoods.

- **City Center area** A commercial and leisure focal point with shopping, restaurants, cinemas, and public gathering spaces.

- **DF Block / FE Block / other planned blocks** These block-based localities reflect the city’s distinctive planning approach, combining residential streets with local markets and community facilities.

- **Adjacent urban fringe toward New Town and Lake Town corridors** These edge areas connect Bidhannagar to newer growth zones and older metropolitan suburbs, often with more mixed-use and higher-intensity development.
