Topography

The topography of the Museum area, much like the rest of Thiruvananthapuram, is characterized by gentle, undulating laterite hills and low-lying valleys. The Kanakakkunnu (translating to "Golden Hill") section of the locality sits on an elevated crest, offering sweeping views of the surrounding greenery. The terrain slopes gently downwards toward the Vellayambalam and Palayam areas. There are no major mountains or rivers directly within the neighborhood, but the natural rolling landscape provides excellent natural drainage during the heavy monsoon seasons.
