Chhattisgarh is a landlocked state in central-eastern India, bordered by seven states: Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh. Its geography is remarkably diverse, divided primarily into three physical divisions: the northern hills, the central plains, and the southern plateau.
The state is famously green, with approximately 44% of its total land area covered by forests, making it one of the most heavily forested states in India. The central plain is highly fertile and is irrigated by the Mahanadi River and its tributaries, serving as the agricultural heartland. The state is exceptionally rich in natural resources, holding significant reserves of coal, iron ore, bauxite, limestone, and dolomite.
