Historically, Sprendlingen was a farming community, with an economy based largely on crop cultivation and local livestock. Today, agriculture plays a very minor role in the district's economy. The vast majority of the land has been developed for residential, commercial, and infrastructural use. Some minor agricultural plots remain on the outskirts, where regional staples such as grains, potatoes, and sugar beets are grown, but modern Sprendlingen is thoroughly urbanized.
