[edit]AgriculturePokkali Cyclic Paddy Cultivation Method was widely used
North Paravur historically practiced the Pokkali Cyclic Paddy Cultivation Method. After the harvest, the decaying stubbles of the paddy serve as food for theprawns and likewise the prawn excreta make the field fertile. No pesticides or fertilizers are used in the fields, in contrast to other prevalent farming practices.
As in other areas of Kerala, paddy fields are widely being reclaimed in North Paravur. Once there were acres of fine wet paddy fields. Pokkali paddy-cum-prawn farming (cyclic farming method) was the traditional practice for farming. This farming method may be one of the most eco-friendly of all farming practices in the world. But once the paddy fields fell into neglect, they became infertile for many years. Eventually those infertile fields were reclaimed and sold for huge profits.
